How Check In handles your data.

Effective April 3, 2026. This policy explains what personal data Check In collects, how it is used, when it is shared, and how you can request deletion or privacy support.

Information we collect

We collect the information required to support recovery attendance verification, supervisor sharing, account security, nearby meeting search, and attendance history.

Profile Details Name, phone number, email, home city

Recovery Preferences Program, sobriety date, home group

Check-In Activity Meeting check-ins, history, streaks

Supervisor Sharing Supervisor links, invite details, attendance requirements

Contacts Only if you grant access to browse contacts for supervisor invites

Location Only if you grant access for nearby meetings and attendance verification

Notifications Push tokens, notification preferences, and reminder scheduling tied to saved meetings or account activity

How we use information

Create and protect accounts.
Show nearby, found, and saved recovery meetings.
Verify check-ins and progress history.
Connect participants with supervisors they choose to share with.
Send app, push, SMS, or email notifications for saved meeting reminders, verification activity, and account updates.
Improve reliability, investigate misuse, and operate the service.

When we share information

With supervisors you intentionally invite or connect to through the app.
With service providers that help us operate the app and website.
When required by law or necessary to protect users and the service.

We do not sell personal information.

Permissions and device features

Contacts: optional, used to browse contacts when inviting a supervisor.
Location: optional, used to find nearby meetings and verify that you remain at the meeting during attendance verification.
Notifications: optional, used for saved meeting reminders, verification activity, and account updates. Some reminders may be scheduled locally on your device based on meetings you save.
Face ID / biometrics: optional, stored locally on your device only.

Retention and deletion

We retain account data only as long as needed to operate the service and satisfy legal or security obligations. You can permanently delete your account in the app from Settings, or review the public instructions on the Delete Account page.
